Stage 21: Groenewegen sprints to Champs-Élysées victory
LottoNL-Jumbo's Dylan Groenewegen took his first career Tour de France stage victory in style, winning the Champs-Élysées sprint ahead of André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data).
The racing heated up after a mostly processional first half of the day as the Tour peloton rolled into Paris. A break jumped clear to provide the sprint teams with a carrot on the urban circuit, with the pack upping the pace to guarantee the escapees would ultimately be reeled in to set up a bunch kick.
Quick-Step's Zdenek Stybar led a late attempt to jump clear but he was swept up to set the stage for a sprint. Groenewegen hit the front very early but held off a charging Greipel to secure the victory.
Chris Froome (Sky) rolled across the line safely a few moments later to officially seal his fourth career Tour de France overall win.
