Giro Rosa
The 2020 Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile, also known as the Giro Rosa, was originally scheduled to take place June 26 to July 5, but will now take place over nine days from September 11-19 as part of the post-COVID-19 revised Women's WorldTour calendar.
The UCI announced the revised late-season calendar in May and the Women's WorldTour has retained 12 events. It will include two stage races and 10 one-day races.
The event will embark on its 31st edition in 2020. It is the longest race on the Women's WorldTour and traditionally held on the most challenging terrain that includes mountain passes: Mortirolo, Stelvio and Gavia.
Organisers have announced that this year's edition will take place in central and southern Italy with the opening stage a team time trial in Grossetto and stage 2 a Strade Bianche-style race that will include two gravel road sectors along the 124.8km route between Paganico and Arcidosso.
They revealed the full route details that include visits to regions of Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, Campania and Puglia. The race will include four summit finishes on stage 3 in Assisi, stage 4 in Tivoli, stage 8 at San Marco La Catola and the finale stage 9 at Motta Montecorvino.
Annemiek van Vleuten (Mitchelton-Scott) won the 2019 edition of the Giro Rosa ahead of Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans) and Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott).
