Claire Rose (Visit Dallas DNA) won the stage 4 downtown criterium at the Redlands Bicycle Classic Saturday in spectacular fashion, taking a solo flyer seven laps into the 60-minute race and sticking her move all the way to the line.

"I didn’t know if I was going to do it or not,” said Rose, who finished second in the UK national TT championships last year. “I just gave it all I had and when I crossed the line, I couldn’t believe it."

The British time trial specialist took her solo win by five seconds over the field, which 15-year-old Megan Jastrab (Amy D Foundation) led across the line ahead of Hagens Berman Supermint’s Lizzie Williams.

The familiar stage 4 criterium on the penultimate day took place on a .6 kilometre, nine-corner course with a near-figure-eight configuration that featured multiple technical corners.

Rose took off on her solo adventure before the first intermediate sprint and was immediately given some leash by the apparently unsuspecting peloton. It was the last time they’d be in contact with the Visit Dallas DNA rider until after she posted her victory salute at the finish.

Heading into Sunday's final stage, 109km on the hilly Sunset Loop, Amber Neben (Dare to Be Project) remains the race leader, 22 seconds ahead of UnitedHealthcare's Katie Hall.
