With 5,450m of climbing crammed into 170.9km, this stage won't be underestimated by anyone in the peloton. Three Hors Catégorie climbs headline a brutal day in the Alps, with the finish atop Alpe d'Huez for the second consecutive stage. On Friday, Tadej Pogačar produced another masterclass, setting a record time up the iconic 21 hairpin bends to claim victory ahead of Lenny Martinez and Richard Carapaz.
On Saturday, the climbing begins almost immediately with the Col de la Croix de Fer (24km at 5.2%), before the riders tackle the Col du Télégraphe (11.9km at 7.1%). After a brief break comes the legendary Col du Galibier (17.7km at 6.9%). Its sweeping descent will bring back fond memories for Tom Pidcock, whose ride downhill paved the way for his solo stage win in 2022. The final challenge starts on the Col de Sarenne (12.8km at 7.3%), which eases onto a plateau before the short but decisive climb to Alpe d'Huez (3.7km at 6.2%).
Pogačar is, unsurprisingly, the overwhelming favourite once again. However, with so much climbing on the menu and a demanding route from start to finish, there's every chance a strong breakaway could survive to contest the stage win.
