The medical updates have been flowing since the end of stage 12 of the Tour de France, given the large number of rider caught up in the crash that marred the final kilometre of the sprint stage.

The results for stage 12 didn't reflect the magnitude of the damage, with riders involved given the same time as the bunch because the fall near the front of the peloton occurred within 5km of the Chalon-sur-Saône line. However, some riders have already been marked down as non-starters for stage 13, having sustained injuries that make continuing out of the question.
