US Road National Championships: DeBenedetti, Jimenez claim junior criterium titles
Late attacks lead to stars and stripes in Charleston
Junior Men
Gregory DeBenedetti (Project Supertraining p/b Vafels) was victorious in the Junior Men's criterium championships on Wednesday evening, out-sprinting Maddox Simmons (Chaney Windows and Doors Big Shark p/b Pastaria) and Diego Duran (DDP Elite Cycling Team) to don the stars and stripes jersey in Charleston, West Virginia.
"The last couple laps were absolute chaos, crashes everywhere, everybody was shooting every little gap," DeBenedetti said.
"On the last lap, I just took a real hot run from the back, ended up about third wheel, protected my space, and with two corners to go, lit it up, let it out, and put everything I had on the line. I’m so happy with that ride!”

Junior Women
After finishing the time trial in second place, Emma Jimenez Palos (City Bikes Miami Racing) put in a late attack add another national championship title to her growing collection in the Junior Women's criterium in Charleston, West Virginia on Wednesday.
A multi-time junior track national champion and last year's 15-16 criterium and road race champion, Jimenez soloed to the win with a late attack, while Sophia Wellmeier (California Academy) out-sprinted Tessa Beebe (BYRDS Cycling) from the chasing peloton for the silver medal.
“It feels great," Jimenez said. "I definitely knew this race suited me pretty well, coming from track. I went into the race just hoping to have fun and race hard, so I was part of some of the attacks and all of that, just not really thinking too much.
"I saw I had a good spot to attack in one of the last corners, so I just went for it."
