Dangerfield won the 50km event in 1.09.44 after his main rival Michael Hutchinson dropped out after puncturing on a descent."My life flashed before my eyes," Hutchinson later confessed. Second place went to former British 10, 25 and 50 mile champion Richard Prebble who took 1.11.08 to cover the distance.The women's event, over 18.7 miles, was a much closer fought battle with Scotland's Caroline Cook beating Best all-Rounder Liz Milne by just three seconds. He put in his winning move after 120 kms from a group of 13, who had split from the peloton on the sixth climb of Walton Hill. Only Matt Stephens could match the move. The pair opened up a gap of 30 seconds, but in the final 14km lap, Lovatt drove the chasing six to within 12 seconds at the line.Martin Ford took 3rd with Lovatt 4th. The remainder of the original break were spread over the next 3 minutes with Chris Debens taking the bunch sprint for 14th spot. Team Bradgates Oliver Wilson passed his first real test of mixing it with the best, coming in just behind in 17th spot to take best placed under 23. The 3/4 cat Junior race held in the morning of the 8th was over five laps of the same circuit. It stayed together for the first three ascents of Walton Hill, though there were many attempts - the best by Ed Mellor Zenith CC, who made a gap of 22 seconds for almost a full lap. ten broke clear with two to go and held on to a gap of 18 seconds at the line.
