Racing gets underway in Chile
The 2014 Trans Andes started on a cold and cloudy morning amidst stunning scenery. More than 350 racers from 32 countries around the globe took to the start at Pirihueico Port in the Región de los Ríos.
Javier Püschel of Chile won the men's solo category ahead of Joan Llordella of Spain. In the open women's category, Rebecca Rusch finished ahead of Sonya Looney.
Stage 2 on Tuesday will feature a demanding circuit of 70 miles, with 2600m of climbing. Racers will end up in Coñaripe on the shores of Lake Pellaifa.
