Description

Days off sometimes turn off to be a double-edged sword. Those who neglect training usually suffer the consequences the following day. Besides, in this occasion, the riders must demand a lot of effort from their bodies in order to reach La Molina after having climbed the 1.920 -metre-high Alto de la Creueta. Last year, with a very similar route, the first breakaway was attempted past the 4th kilometre, the second one past the 9th kilometre and the third and important one past the 37th kilometre. In La Crueta, a rider from Colombia, Felix Cárdenas, was already the best along with Santos González, Peña and Del Olmo. Olano had a very difficult time and lost his leadership. Cárdenas showed that a good breakaway in La Crueta could lead him to the final victory. It is a especial stage to jump into leadership, Santos González did it in the year 2000.
