Swift wins stage 2 at Coppi e Bartali

Torrential rain added to the challenges during Friday's second stage at Coppi e Bartali, but Team Sky's Ben Swift overcame the conditions to take the stage win and seize the overall lead from overnight leader Davide Rebellin (CCC).

Swift jumped clear of the bunch on the final ascent of the Ville di Monte Tiffi, infiltrating a three-man breakaway before attacking into the final kilometre and soloing across the line ahead of Matija Kvasina (Felbermayr-Simplon Wels) and Francesco Bongiorno (Bardiani CSF).

Team Sky bided their time before hitting the front on the final lap of the 160.2km test. The concluding climb blew the race apart, with Swift pushing clear alongside Kvasina and Bongiorno.

Swift now leads Kvasina by 41 seconds in the general classification heading into the weekend.
