Evenepoel wins stage 3 of Adriatica Ionica Race
Young Belgian wins solo, Padun retains overall lead
Young Belgian star Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-QuickStep) won stage 3 of the Adriatica Ionica stage race in Cormons, Italy, on Saturday. It was the 19-year-old neo-pro's third victory of the season, having won a stage and the overall title at the Baloise Belgium Tour in June.
Although he won the stage solo, by just over two minutes back to teammate Philippe Gilbert, it wasn't enough to wrest the overall leader's jersey from the winner of stage 2, Mark Padun (Bahrain-Merida).
Evenepoel's time gain did, however, push him up to fifth place overall, 46 seconds down on Padun, who still leads Israel Cycling Academy's Ben Hermans by six seconds. Evenepoel's Deceuninck teammate James Knox is third, 15 seconds off the pace, while Jonathan Caicedo (EF Education First) is another five seconds back in fourth, with just one stage of the race remaining on Sunday.

Cyclingnews is the world's leader in English-language coverage of professional cycling. Started in 1995 by University of Newcastle professor Bill Mitchell, the site was one of the first to provide breaking news and results over the internet in English. The site was purchased by Knapp Communications in 1999, and owner Gerard Knapp built it into the definitive voice of pro cycling. Since then, major publishing house Future PLC has owned the site and expanded it to include top features, news, results, photos and tech reporting. The site continues to be the most comprehensive and authoritative English voice in professional cycling.
