Van Garderen takes home the overall victory

American Tejay Van Garderen sealed his second overall stage race victory in the final stage of the Circuito Montanes on Sunday. The Rabobank Continental rider climbed into the overall lead on the penultimate stage's hilltop finish, and finished safely in the peloton on the final sprint stage.

The 21-year-old won the Tour du Haut Anjou in May, and finished second overall in the Olympias Tour last month.

The win comes two weeks after the Colorado native was nearly hit by a car during training. He was lucky to avoid hitting the car on a descent, and escaped with only scrapes and bruises. The incident seemed to do little to slow Van Garderen down, and he won the overall classification with a 35 second lead over Spaniard Jonathan Castroviejo Nicolas (Orbea).
