Vuelta a Burgos Feminas
Vuelta a Burgos Feminas is the first stage race of this year’s Women’s WorldTour held from May 20-23 in Spain. After the cancellation of Itzulia Women and the postponement of Tour of Chongming Island, it is also the only top-tier event for the women’s peloton during the month of May.
Vuelta a Burgos Feminas was one of two stage races added to the Women’s WorldTour this year, alongside Itzulia Women, also in Spain. The latter was originally planned for May 14-16, but was cancelled. Organisers have, instead, brought back their one-day Clasica San Sebastián race and it has been added to the Women's WorldTour on July 31.
A combination of lower-level events including the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, Emakumeen Nafarroako Women's Elite Classics, Navarra Women's Elite Classics, Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar and Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria - all in Spain - gave the peloton a series of challenging climbing races as a lead-up to the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas.
An action-packed Spring Classics campaign ended with Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek-Segafredo) in the overall lead of the Women’s WorldTour. The Italian champion has 1568 points and is positioned ahead of Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) 1484 points, and Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) 1420 points.
