Stage 3 saw Tadej Pogačar power up Les Angles to claim his first stage victory of this year's Tour and the 22nd Tour de France stage win of his career. Today's stage still suits the Slovenian on paper, but with tougher mountain tests to come, he is unlikely to target another win.
Stage 4 runs 181.9km from Carcassonne to Foix and includes around 2,700m of elevation gain across a rolling parcours. The key ascents, the Col de Coudons (10.7km at 5.5%) and the Col de Montségur (6.9km at 6.6%), should be enough to shed the pure sprinters, even those capable of climbing reasonably well. However, with a long descent following the summit of Montségur, a reduced bunch sprint remains a very realistic outcome.
Expect the likes of Ben Healy, Quinn Simmons and Jonas Abrahamsen to target the breakaway, while Mads Pedersen could fancy his chances of securing his first stage victory of this year's race for Lidl–Trek.
