Stage 9 saw Mathieu van der Poel claim the third Tour de France stage win of his career, outsprinting Tom Pidcock, Tobias Johannessen and Alex Baudin to victory.

Today, the terrain changes again as the race heads into central France for a 166.6km stage from Aurillac to Le Lioran. The route packs in 3,800m of climbing and seven categorised ascents, including the Puy Mary – Pas de Peyrol (7.8km at 6%) and the Col de Pertus (4.4km at 8.5%). It all concludes in Le Lioran, where Jonas Vingegaard famously outsprinted Tadej Pogačar to win Stage 11 in 2024.

With it being Bastille Day, the home fans will no doubt be expecting plenty of French riders to feature in the breakaway, while their general classification hopes continue to rest with Paul Seixas. The Decathlon rider currently sits sixth overall and looked in good form in the Pyrenees. Can he produce something special today?
