Latest News from the Race
Richie Porte confirmed he will be one of the Tour de France contenders come July after sealing Tour de Romandie victory by placing second in the stage 5 time trial.
The BMC man started stage 5 needing to overcome a 19-second deficit to Simon Yates (Orica-Scott) and did so comfortably to seal a 21-second victory. LottoNL-Jumbo's Primoz Roglic won the stage as the Slovenian continues his transformation into a premier one-week stage racer.
Simon Yates and Primoz Roglic completed the podium with Stefan Kung winning the points classification, Sander Armee the KOM jersey and Pierre Latour the best young rider prize
Chris Froome (Team Sky) had another quiet day to finish in ninth place and 18th on general classification. The three-time Tour de France winner is still searching for his first win of the season.

On the heels of the final major Classic of the spring, the Tour de Romandie marks a transition period on the WorldTour calendar as the pro peloton gears up for Grand Tour season.
Six days of racing through Switzerland's French-speaking Romandie region, the race tends to reward all-rounders who can thrive on challenging Alpine gradients while also delivering good results against the clock. This year is no different.
A short prologue in Aigle kicks things off and an 18.3km individual time trial concludes the 2017 Tour de Romandie, with a few great opportunities for the climbers sandwiched in between the chronos.
Movistar's Nairo Quintana won the race last year, but he isn't planning to make the start this week. Two-time winner Chris Froome (Sky), however, is slated to race in Romandie. Given his track record and his status as an elite climber and time trialist too, he is a formidable favourite. BMC's dual threat of Richie Porte and Tejay van Garderen, similarly well-equipped on both climbing days and against the clock, could be in the mix as well. 2015 winner Ilnur Zakarin, Ion Izagirre, Primoz Roglic, Rafal Majka and Jarlinson Pantano are other possible contenders in Romandie.
