All the details of the 100th edition of the Catalan stage race

The Volta a Catalunya celebrates an important milestone in 2020: its 100th birthday. The race, which takes place in the autonomous region of Catalunya in north east Spain, held its first edition back in 1911 and is the third oldest stage race in the world, with the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia the only others to reach 100. 

The route takes advantage of the Pyrenees to the north of the region to offer some stiff tests to the climbers, while the race traditionally finishes in Barcelona with laps of the hilly Montjuic Park. 

The 2019 Volta a Catalunya was won by Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana), who triumphed atop La Molina before fending off a volley of attacks in Barcelona, with Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) and Egan Bernal (Team Ineos) consigned to the lower steps of the podium.
