Sacha Modolo (Colnago-CSF Inox) was the winner of today’s stage at the Brixia Tour, ahead of Bernardo Riccio (Angelo & Antenuccio-Nippo), and Koldo Fernandez (Euskaltel-Euskadi). The fifth stage took place from Calcinato to Verona and with flat parcour was always destined to end in a sprint finish.
Overall leader Fortunato Baliani (D’Angelo & Antenucci -Nippo) remained atop the standings to take out the Brixia Tour title over Domenic Pozzovivo.
The stage was characterised by a number of short breakaways. The main escape of the day set off at the 75km-mark, and included two riders; Francesco Ginanni (Androni Giocattoli-CIPI) and Rubens Bertogliati (Team Type 1-Sanofi Aventis). They stayed away for 79 km reaching a maximum advantage of 2:56.
After being brought back the peloton prepared for the sprint and it was Italian Sacha Modolo who took the win in Verona.
