Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition 2019 - Overview
The Polish rider had looked strong on previous ascents of the Cauberg and surged away from an elite group of 15 as the race hit the famous climb for the final time. Van Vleuten was late to respond but made her way up past Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv) to crest in second place, leaving a nail-biting 1.8 km run-in to the line.
After a hiatus, the Amstel Gold Race Women returned in 2017 won by Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans). Last year, it had the same start and finish as the men in Maastricht. The distance was roughly 120 kilometres but includes challenging climbs.
It offered a hilly parcours that finishes on three 17.8-kilometre circuits that features the Geulhemmerberg, Bemelerberg and Cauberg climbs. From the top of the Cauberg, there were 1.7 kilometres to the finish line.
