Breschel on the double at the Tour of Denmark

After going more than a year without a victory, Matti Breschel found his stride in the Tour of Denmark, chalking up his second consecutive sprint win on stage 4 to Frederiksvaerk, topping Edvald Boasson Hagen (MTN-Qhubeka) and Magnus Cort Nielsen (Team Post Denmark) on the uphill dash to the line.

The Tinkoff-Saxo rider took over the points classification from Marco Marcato (Wanty-Groupe Gobert).

“It’s really something, it’s my second win and the team’s second win in a row," Breschel said. "I’ve put in a lot of hours on the bike before this race. It’s just over a month since I was hit by a car and now I’m here as the stage winner for the second day in a row.

"That’s great but it’s also due to the group of guys racing here. In the sprint I knew that I had to start my sprint far out to increase my chances against Boasson Hagen and Magnus Cort. So I opted for a long sprint and that certainly worked out well."

Lars Bak (Lotto Soudal) retained the race lead, sitting three seconds ahead of Marcato, with Tinoff-Saxo's Christopher Juul Jensen in third at 12 seconds going into the afternoon time trial.

Breschel is in fourth, and said he would give it a go in the time trial to secure a good GC position. "I want to go out there and ride as fast as I can – time trials are not my specialty, but taking my GC position into consideration I have to do my best. But there’s no doubt that Chris Juul-Jensen is our primary guy tonight and I think he stands more than a fair chance."
