Cyclingnews Verdict

Faster than everything else, lighter than basically every other mainstream aero wheel, cheaper than all the big names, and ride brilliantly too, all while being decent to look at. A winning set of wheels in more ways than one.

Hunt has been pushing the boundaries of the best road bike wheels for a while now. I remember kicking about on a set of Limitless wheels a few years ago, before wide road tyres had really taken off, and marvelling at how when I looked down I could see more rim than tyre. Wind on a couple of years and now it has come out with the 5AM Limitless wheelset, with the ‘5’ roughly denoting the depth and the ‘AM’ definitely not standing for ‘Aero Mullet’, but rather ‘Aero Maximised’.

Like it or not, the road mullet trend is here to stay, and this is another new wheelset with a deeper front wheel than rear. Hunt makes some bold claims, but we can park them for a second as the 5AM Limitless Ti-UD Carbon Spoke Disc (to give it its full title) came out as the fastest road bike wheels in our recent wind tunnel test. Wind tunnel numbers can only tell you so much, so I slapped ‘em on a Dura-Ace equipped Look Blade 795 RS, in place of the Scope Artech 6.A wheels it came with (I know, this job is hard and miserable and awful) and gave them a good seeing to.
