The Colombian rider Jaime Castañeda of the UNE EPM Team, won the second stage of the Vuelta a Cuba in Santiago de Cuba ahead of Venezuelan Wilman Bravo in the bunch sprint, taking the overall lead of the race.

"I am delighted with this victory. I've never been here before, but I think it's wonderful. We have a good team and although it is our first competition we want to win some stages," said Castaneda to the Prensa Latina news agency.

On a sweltering day, the attacks were frequent from the gun until 11 riders managed to loosen the group of the peloton.

The group gained three minutes, and Cuban Yans Airas scooped up all the intermediate sprint bonuses before the breakaway was caught inside the final circuit.

With race leader Miguel Ubeto was dropped to a chasing group over a minute behind, Castaneda sprinted to the stage win and the ovearll lead.
