Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil-DCM) celebrated his 27th birthday in fine fashion as he won the Tour du Finistère, the sixth round of the Coupe du France. The 27-year-old Frenchman gapped the peloton in the uphill field sprint as he topped runner-up Armindo Fonseca (Bretagne-Schuller) by one second and third-placed Sandy Casar (FDJ) by two seconds.
A promising six man escape comprised of Frederik Veuchelen (Vacansoleil-DCM), Cyril Gautier (Team Europcar), Jean-Marc Marino (Saur-Sojasun), Sébastien Minard (AG2R La Mondiale), Rémi Cusin (Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne) and Cédric Pineau (FDJ) attacked with 70km remaining in the 186km race, but were swept up by the peloton less than 20km to the finish in Quimper.
With the victory, Feillu is the new leader of the Coupe du France.
