Considered North America's hardest one-day race, the Leadville 100 marathon mountain bike race has been run since 1994 in Leadville, Colorado with a list of past winners that includes the likes of David Wiens, Todd Wells and road riders Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer.
The 100-mile route is an out-and-back climbing affair with Columbine mine, Powerline and St Kevins the major climbs of the route which sees the riders come close to reaching 3,400 m of elevation gain.
For 2016, it's not just the mountain bikers lining up for the race with recent Tour de Utah winner Lachlan Morton (Jelly Belly) and Joe Dombrowski (Cannondale-Drapac) also set to compete. Giant-Alpecin's Laurens ten Dam will also line out for the race, as will former professionals Timmy Duggan and Ted King.
