Semple sprints to victory

Adam Semple (Drapac) won stage six at the Tour de Taiwan, outkicking Dean Downing (Rapha Condor-Sharp) and Chan Jae Jang (Korea) in the field sprint finale.

"I don't think that it was an easy ride," said Semple. "The Iranian team is very strong. They have been in front of the race the whole time long and they are tough to beat.

"So today we had to ride smart and we worked hard together to ride our own race. At the end, I thought of attacking at the 20km mark but the manager [Giramondo] Agostino told me not to. And at the end, I was led out superbly by [Floris] Goesinnen which made it easier for me."

Mehdi Sohrabi (Tabriz Petrochemical Team) took over the leader's jersey from teammate Markus Eibegger after picking up bonus seconds during the stage. The Iranian now has a two-second advantage over Eibegger while defending champion David McCann (Giant Kenda Cycling Team) remains in third overall, 21 seconds back.

"I cannot say that I will win the GC this year as there are several more days left to the tour and there will be riders wanting to make things happen for themselves," said Sohrabi.
