This updated version of Rapha's Classic not only tweaks design but is also 20 percent cheaper than its original incarnation.

  • Highs: Relatively light, fitted, windproof, hydrophobic coating
  • Lows: Zip fiddly, initial outlay
  • Buy if: You want a lightweight, functional training and racing gilet

Its stretchy fabric provides a fitted flap-free cut and being Rapha has a race fit. Rapha has used more substantial windproof panels on the front and back which do a good job of keeping the elements out. These panels also feature a hydrophobic coating that sees rain bead off during a shower.

The small front zip is reversed to keep drafts at bay but can be fiddly to use with gloves on.

Rapha has added a mesh rear and side panels so there's never an issue with overheating even during hard training intervals.

The rear stash pockets and front zip pocket are a useful addition, and when not in use easily fits into a jersey pocket.

While this lightweight gilet isn't cheap it rides well and delivers high on quality and function.

BikeRadar verdict - 4.5/5
"Good fit and material make for a top performing gilet"
