Emilia Fahlin (HTC-Highroad) took her first big international win on Monday at the Tour de l'Ardeche, powering to the fastest time in the race's opening day prologue. Her time of 3:09.1 stood from almost the start of the day, with the 21-year-old Swede one of the first to ride the 2.4km course.
"She's really excited," said HTC Sport Director Ronny Lauke. "She had to wait for another 80 finishers to find out if she won. It was nerve racking but she pulled it off and she's very happy."
Fahlin won the 2.4km time trial from a world class field that included time trial world champion Emma Pooley, Lizzie Armitstead, Leire Dorronsoro and teammate Amber Neben.
"For [Fahlin] it's a great confidence builder," added Lauke. "World Championships are coming up not far from her home and she has some great form."
Fahlin will wear the leaders jersey going into Stage one on Tuesday's 112 kilometre stage to Beauchastel. "We're going to try to keep the jersey as long as possible," added Fahlin. "I'm feeling pretty good and we have a good team here so we'll give it everything."
