Androni Giocattoli time trials to stage victory

Emanuele Sella has continued his great start to life at Androni Giocattoli by taking the leader's jersey in the event after the opening day's team time trial.

Gianni Savio's men covered the 15km course in 18:32, beating Lampre-ISD and FDJ to move their man Sella into the overall ascendancy with four stages remaining.

Liquigas-Cannondale had a time trial to forget, with Paolo Longo Borghini the only man to escape the semi-stage unscathed. Five of its six riders - with Ted King and Mauro Finetti having already dropped off - hit the deck and the squad's members now find themselves a long way back in the general classification.

Tomorrow's stage is a 194km journey to Rovigo in the Veneto region, where Androni Giocattoli will aim to keep Sella in the race lead. It's the longest day of the race and flat, so it's expected that the Italian will find himself still in the jersey by day's end.
