Nuyens tops Visconti for stage win

Nick Nuyens of Rabobank won the fifth stage of the Tour of Austria, comparing the stage to the Flemish Spring Classics which are his speciality. He outsprinted Italian national champion Giovanni Visconti (ISD-Neri), with Katusha's Egor Silin finishing third. Riccardo Ricco of Flaminia Ceramica easily defended his overall lead.

"It was a dreamy stage, especially the finale," Nuyens said. "The rise at the end reminded me of the Flemish climbs, which pleased me."

"We had everything under control," said Ricco. "There was no dangerous rider in the escape group."

The day's escape group consisted of 12 riders who got away at the 50 km marker. They stayed away until very nearly the end, being caught only at the foot of the closing one kilometre long climb up the Deutschlandsberg.
