The Cervelo TestTeam delivered a 1-2 punch to the women's field in the opening prologue of the 20th Giro Donne on Friday. In the late evening event, Dutchwoman Kirsten Wild powered to the stage win with four seconds over teammate and Olympic champion Kristin Armstrong in the 2.5km test.
Team Columbia-HTC took the next two spots with Dane Linda Villumsen and German Ina Teutenberg coming in just fractions of a second behind Armstrong, and a a half second ahead of Charlotte Becker (Equipe Nürnberger Versicherung).
American Katharine Carroll (US National Team) put in a strong effort to place sixth ahead of Swede Susanne Ljungskog (Flexpoint). Two other Flexpoint riders came in the next two spots, with Iris Slappendel and Trine Schmidt edging out Columbia-HTC's Chantal Beltman.
Defending race champion Fabiana Luperini finished 17 seconds behind Wild.
