The German city of Düsseldorf has declared its bid to A.S.O. to host the start of the Tour de France in 2008. Düsseldorf will therefore rival Rotterdam and Utrecht (Ned), Florence (Ita), Lugano (Swi) and Herning (Den). Germany has hosted the start of the Tour three times in the past (Cologne 1965, Frankfurt 1980 and Berlin 1987).
