Expert analysis: Which indoor smart trainer you should buy right now

Wahoo Kickr vs Tacx Neo 2t

I remember when I headed to Zwift headquarters last year to learn about a new project the brand was talking about. There'd been rumors for a while about an outrageous design themed around the in-game Tron bike. That day though, there was no Tron bike. Instead, Zwift announced the Zwift Hub; a smart trainer that I knew would absolutely transform the market. Turns out I was right on the money this time and our list of the best smart trainers for indoor cycling has never been the same.

I wasn't entirely right though. I figured by now we'd all have a clear sense of the picture and it would be back to business as normal just with a new normal. As we head into the holidays, that is not the situation at all. The Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals have only made the situation more confusing.

Saris H3 Smart Trainer:
US: $649.99 $549.99 at Amazon
UK:
£749.99 £449.00 at Evans Cycles
15 - 40% off - While it hasn't been updated in a number of years, the Saris H3 has great ride feel and impressive specs. It's also priced low enough to compete with Wahoo and Zwift for a quality budget option.

Zwift Hub One:US: $748.99$599.99 at Zwift
UK: £679.98£549.99 at Zwift1 year free subscription to Zwift

Zwift Hub One:
US: $748.99 $599.99 at Zwift
UK:
£679.98 £549.99 at Zwift
1 year free subscription to Zwift - The deal here is that Zwift is including a year's subscription to Zwift too. You can buy that for any trainer but this way the price you pay includes everything you need to start riding and keep going for the next year.

Wahoo Kickr Core:US: $699.99$599.99 at Wahoo
UK: £649.99£549.99 at Wahoo
1 year free subscription to Zwift -

Wahoo Kickr Core:
US: $699.99 $599.99 at Wahoo
UK:
£649.99 £549.99 at Wahoo
1 year free subscription to Zwift -
The discount puts the Kickr Core at the same price as the Zwift Hub One and both include a year of Zwift. This way you can decide if you'd rather have virtual shifting or a traditional cassette.

Wahoo Kickr Core (Without Zwift):US: $599.99$499.99 at Competitive Cyclist
UK: £649.99£449.99 at Sigma Sports

Wahoo Kickr Core (Without Zwift):
US: $599.99 $499.99 at Competitive Cyclist
UK:
£649.99 £449.99 at Sigma Sports
The Kickr Core can also be bought without the Zwift subscription though, so if you're more excited by Rouvy, TrainerRoad or MyWhoosh, then you can save a bit of cash.

Alternative: Pinnacle HC (Without Zwift):
UK: £699.99£210.00 at Sigma Sports

Alternative: Pinnacle HC (Without Zwift):
UK:
£699.99 £210.00 at Sigma Sports
This one's a left-field inclusion, but the deal is enormous so we can't ignore it. The Pinnacle HC is one of the lesser-known brands; actually an in-house brand of the Fraser PLC that owns Evans Cycles and Sports Direct in the UK. The product is almost identical to the Kickr Core in its design, but in our testing we found the build quality was a little less premium. You might not want to take that risk, but on the flipside, you might not be able to ignore the discount.

Wahoo Kickr Smart Trainer:
USA: $1299.99$999.99 at Wahoo
UK: £1099.99 £974.00 at Sigma Sports

UK:
£1099.99 £974.00 at Sigma Sports

Unfortunately this deal is only available in the US. As long as that covers you though, the Kickr is a great trainer with some real upgrades compared to the Kickr Core.

Tacx Neo 2T Smart Trainer:
USA: $1,399.99$899.99 at Amazon
UK: £1,199.99 £959.00 at Evans Cycles
20 - 36% off -

Tacx Neo 2T Smart Trainer:
USA:
$1,399.99 $899.99 at Amazon
UK:
£1,199.99 £959.00 at Evans Cycles

In the US Tacx has gone the route of discounting the price of the Neo 2T low enough that even when you had the cost of a cassette it's on par with the Wahoo Kickr. If you really want motion it makes sense to add the Tacx Motion Plates for a package that costs less than the Kickr Move.

Elite Justo: £999.99 £799.99 at Swinnerton Cycles
The Justo doesn't come with a cassette, so you'll need to factor that into the cost, but at this discount it might be worth consideration.
