Italy's Ivan Santaromita (Liquigas-Doimo) sealed overall victory in the Settimana Internazionale Coppi & Bartali on Saturday, as Poland’s Bartosz Huzarski (ISD-Neri) won the fifth and final stage to Sassuolo, near Bolgona, after a long breakaway.
Santaromita took the race lead after being in a key breakaway on stage three and comfortably defended his lead despite several attacks from Riccardo Ricco' (Ceramica Flaminia). Ricco' –riding his first race since the end of his ban for doping, eventually lost time on stage four after missing a split in the peloton.
Przemyslav Niemiec (Miche) finished second overall, at 1:43, with Jose Serpa (Andorni Giocattoli) third at 2:25. Ricco' was fifth at 2:44.
Huzarski won the final stage from Fiorano Modenese to Sassuolo thanks to creating the early break with Stefano Borchi (De Rosa–Stac Plastic) after just 12km. The bunch let them gain over eight minutes and then did not have the power or desire to pull them back. Borchi was dropped on the final climb of the stage, allowing Huzarski to win alone, 45 seconds clear. The bunch finished two minutes behind.
