Frapporti wins Brixia Tour opener

Marco Frapporti (Colnago CSF Inox) took victory on the opening stage of the Brixia Tour after a 110km break in the company of Fortunato Baliani (D'Angelo & Antenucci Nippo).

The duo escaped just shy of 40km into the stage and collaborated well to remain clear all the way to the finish in Edolo. In the two-up sprint, Frapporti had too much for his fellow escapee to take the first leader’s jersey of the race and the third win of his professional career.

“It’s a great satisfaction that comes after such a long time,” said Frapporti, who hails from nearby Anfo. “Winning on home roads has a sweeter taste, it makes you feel good.”

Frapporti also paid tribute to the contribution the vanquished Baliani made to the success of the break. “I had an exceptional breakaway companion,” he admitted. “We shared the work equally, and at the finish I was the quicker.”
