Illesic nabs another in Brazil

Aldo Ino Ilesic won his second stage at the Tour do Rio Sunday as teammate Chris Jones finished second overall. Italy’s Tomas Alberio (Trevigiani Dynamon Bottoli) claimed the general classification victory having lead the event since his win on the opening stage.

"This was really a successful trip," Team Type 1 director sportif Vassili Davidenko said. "It was logistically tough, but successful and today was a great example of that."

With two kilometers to go in Sunday's 161 km race from Cabo Frio to Rio de Janeiro, a pair of Brazilian riders from the Cesc Sao Caetano/Cawamar/Kuruma/R. Star squad enjoyed a seemingly safe 20-second lead. But unbeknownst to them, the charging field were rapidly closing the gap.

"As we were coming into the last 150 metres and I was starting my sprint, I saw four motorbikes behind those two guys spread all across the road," Hanson said. "They had sat up and were holding up their hands in the last 50 meters. I went left and and had to zig-zag through people standing at the finish line. Aldo was able to go wide on the right and get through."

Officials ruled Kenneth Hanson (Team Type 1) was fourth – behind the Brazilian pair and ahead of a referee's motorcycle – moving him up to fifth overall in the final standings.

"I've never been more frustrated leaving a race," Hanson said. "Yesterday, I thought I was going to win but a guy knocked me off Aldo's wheel when I wasn't expecting it. I cracked my bike, tumbled on my back and scraped up my knee."
