Weening a winner in Austria

Rabobank's Pieter Weening took the win in stage three of the Tour of Austria on Tuesday on the long, gradual rise to Prägraten am Großvenedinger. The Dutchman came out of the breakaway group chasing solo leader Leonardo Bertagnolli (Serramenti) to claim the victory. 

Columbia-HTC's Michael Albasini maintained his overall lead by finishing fourth on the stage, even extending his lead on GC by two seconds over Giampaolo Caruso (Ceramica Flaminia) by two seconds in the process.

The day began with a break of ten forming ahead of the tallest peak of the Tour, the Fuschertörl. Koos Moerenhout took the  "Glocknerkonig" prize at the top ahead of Timothy Duggan (Garmin-Slipstream) and Bertagnolli.

Four riders broke clear on the category three Iselsberg with 56km to go, but when that move was caught, Bertagnolli attacked and tried to go it alone to the finish.  The Italian gained up to three minutes, but with 10km left to go, Weening bridged up to him and easily outsprinted Bertagnolli for the stage win.
