Jan Ullrich, the fallen star of German cycling, made a rare public appearance at the Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen to promote a line of clothing, but refused to be coerced into speaking about the doping accusations which spelled an early end to his cycling career. Ullrich, who was implicated in Operación Puerto, was hounded by German investigators until DNA tests allegedly linked the former Tour de France champion directly to bags of blood seized in the affair.
The 33 year-old staunchly refused to be drawn into a conversation about his case with the media. "If I had to say something on these accusations," he told AFP, "I, myself, would choose the media and the date to speak."
Ullrich will appear daily at the stand of the X-BIONIC company, according to his website, janullrich.de. He is scheduled to attend at 11:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and again at 15:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
