USA Cycling has announced its complete roster for the 2009 International Cycling Union (UCI) Road World Championships in Mendriso, Switzerland. Tom Danielson (Garmin-Slipstream) will contest both the elite men’s road race and time trial.
Danielson will be joined In the time trial by Tom Zirbel (Bissell), the silver medalist from this month’s USA Cycling Professional Time Trial Championships. Zirbel claimed his place in the team after both Dave Zabriskie and Chris Horner decided against taking up their spots in the squad.
Recent Vuelta a Espana stage winner Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Slipstream) will join his trade team-mate in the road race. Brent Bookwalter (BMC Racing Team) will join the pair following his impressive fourth place at the USProfessional Road Race Championships.
The trio will be joined by Jeff Louder (BMC), Craig Lewis (Columbia-HTC), Andrew Bajadali (Kelly Benefits Strategies), Jason McCartney (Team Saxo Bank), Tim Duggan (Garmin-Slipstream), and Tom Peterson (Garmin-Slipstream).
Having just contested the Tour de L’Avenir, both Tejay Van Garderen (Rabobank Continental Team) and Peter Stetina (Garmin-Felt-Holowesko) will compete in the Under 23 men’s road race and time trial. The pair will be joined by Kirk Carlsen (Garmin-Felt-Holowesko), Chris Barton (BMC), and Alex Howes (Garmin-Felt-Holowesko).
USA Cycling announced its elite women’s team last week.
