BMC rider crashes out of Tour du Poitou-Charentes

Thor Hushovd (BMC Racing) has ruled himself out of next month's world championships in Spain after he crashed out on the last stage of the Tour du Poitou-Charentes on Friday.

The Norwegian posted a picture of his injuries - which included cuts and bruises on his back and side  - on Twitter with the message “No Worlds for me after crash yesterday. I'm doing fine, but need few days off the bike.”

Hushovd has already confirmed that this will be his final season in the professional ranks, bringing down the curtain on a career that started in 1999 at Credit Agricole. He won the world championships in Geelong, Australia in 2010 and has spent three season at BMC Racing.
