Biography:
Romain Bardet is currently among the leaders of Team DSM, the Frenchman having signed for the Dutch squad from AG2R La Mondiale in 2021. In 2023, Bardet is targeting the Tour de France as he returns to the French Grand Tour for a 10th time.
Born in Brioude, France on November 9, 1990, Bardet has long been one of the great hopes of French cycling, carrying the country's Tour de France dreams along with Thibaut Pinot for the better part of a decade. Bardet has twice finished on the podium of the biggest Grand Tour on the calendar, his best result coming with a second place at the 2016 race. He has six top 10s to his name as well as a top 10 at the 2021 Giro d'Italia.
Bardet has been one of the top stage racers of his generation and is frequently in the mix for wins at WorldTour level, though he's only won two stage races in his career – the 2013 Tour de l'Ain, and the 2022 Tour of the Alps. His palmarès also includes three stage wins at the Tour de France between 2015 and 2017, a stage of the 2015 Critérium du Dauphiné, and a stage at the 2021 Vuelta a España, where he finished second in the mountain classification to then-teammate Michael Storer.
