Stage 6: Alejandro Valverde seals overall victory, Primoz Roglic wins Eibar time trial
Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) finished second in the 27km Eibar time trial to claim his third stage race win of 2017. Primoz Roglic also continued his good start to the season with the Volta ao Algarve winner and Slovenian national time trial title taking his second stage win of the race.
With the top-ten all within 22 second of each other, the time trial would be the final deciding factor and delivered. The biggest loser in the shake up was Romain Bardet who dropped from third to 15th while Cannondale-Drapac duo Rigoberto Uran and Michael Woods also went backwards in the standings, falling from second to ninth and fifth to 12 respectively.
While Valverde was celebrating his third stage win of 2017, Alberto Contador was runner-up to his compatriot for the third time in the early-season. The all Spanish final podium was completed by national time trial champion Ion Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida).
