Emma Trott (British Cycling) was surprised to find herself as the winner of Gracia – Orlova’s time trial. Trott held off some big names for the stage win, with Nederland Bloeit team-mate’s Annemie Van Vleuten and Marianne Vos finishing in second and third respectively.

"This victory was more of a surprise to me than anyone else,” Trott told britishcycling.org.uk. “I just got onto the turbo and did what I usually do for a warm-up, went down the start ramp and rode like I usually ride. When I crossed the line, everyone was like ‘you might have won’, and I was like, really! How did that happen?

"I've always been able to do a good time trial but I haven't really worked on it a lot this year," she added.

Despite dropping 15 seconds to Trott on the time trial, Vos continues to lead the race’s general classification.
