One of 16 total teams, Team Type 1 is headed to the Tour of Ireland for the three-day race that kicks off Friday south of Dublin and runs through Sunday, when it ends at the seaside port of Cork.

Team Type 1 Founder Phil Southerland, who will accompany the team to Ireland, said the squad's inclusion in the world-class field is yet another step toward Team Type 1's long-term goal of participating in the 2012 Tour de France.

This year, Team Type 1 has won 50 races and earned 107 podium finishes. The team will race in Ireland against seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong (Astana) and British sprint star Mark Cavendish (Columbia-HTC), who won six stages of this year's Tour de France.
