2018 Tour de Romandie overview

Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo) won the 2018 Tour de Romandie, wrapping up the yellow jersey on Sunday as Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) sprinted to victory on the final stage.

Roglic built his success against the clock, finishing third in the prologue and second in the stage 3 mountain time trial, before defending his lead against Egan Bernal (Team Sky) and Richie Porte (BMC Racing) through the mountains on the penultimate day's queen stage.

The final stage into Geneva was always likely to end in a bunch sprint, and Roglic finished safely in the peloton to seal the overall title, his second WorldTour stage race success of 2018 after the Vuelta al País Vasco earlier this month. Bernal and Porte rounded out the final podium.

With the Quick-Step Floors duo of Elia Viviani and Fernando Gaviria out of the race due to finishing outside the time limit in the stage 3 time trial, and Sunweb's Michael Matthews out through illness, the door was open for Ackermann to take a first professional victory on the final day. The 24-year-old German got the better of Viviani's lead-out man Michael Morkov in the sprint for the line, with Roberto Ferrari (UAE Team Emirates) finishing third.
