Biography:
Nairo Quintana has been one of the top climbing talents and most-decorated GC riders in the current peloton since he moved to the WorldTour with Movistar in 2012. He has two Grand Tour titles to his name - the 2014 Giro d'Italia and the 2016 Vuelta a España. Other major wins on his palmarès include wins at Itzulia Basque Country, the Volta a Catalunya, Tirreno-Adriatico, and the Tour de Romandie, while he has also taken three Tour de France podium spots and a total of eight Grand Tour stage wins.
The Colombian, born February 4, 1990 in Boyaca, began his pro career with ProConti team Cafe de Colombia-Colombia Es Pasion in 2011 after the Colombian squad moved from Continental level. The majority of his career, and the team with which he achieved many of his best results, though, was Spanish team Movistar. Racing with them from 2012 to 2019, he formed part of the famous Movistar powerhouse alongside a combination of Richard Carapaz, Alejandro Valverde, and Mikel Landa.
Quintana's 2022 season was the final of three with Arkéa-Samsic and looked like it would be his best with the French squad until his Tour DSQ. Earlier in the year, he won the Tour de le Provence and Tour du Var, and also finished top five in Paris-Nice and the Volta a Catalunya.
His career on the world stage was shuttered in 2023 when he could not find a contract, which followed two positive tests for tramadol at the 2022 Tour de France, where he was disqualified from sixth place. At the end of the year, however, he joined former team Movistar on a one-year deal and race through 2024.
