Biography:
Adam Yates was born in Bury, England on August 7, 1992, and spent the first seven years of his career at the Orica/Mitchelton-Scott setup after turning pro in 2014 with his twin brother Simon, who is still racing with the team. During his time with the Australian squad, he took many of the best results of his career so far, including fourth at the 2016 Tour de France, a solo victory at the Donostia Klasikoa San Sebastián a year earlier, a breakthrough win at the 2014 Tour of Turkey, and the 2020 UAE Tour.
He moved to Ineos Grenadiers for 2021-2022, his first season winning the Volta a Catalunya, scoring his first Monument podium at Il Lombardia, and taking fourth at the Vuelta a España. In 2022 he supported Geraint Thomas to a Tour de France podium, finishing ninth himself, and won the Deutschland Tour. After the German win, he rounded off his 2022 campaign with a string of top 10s at the GPs Québec and Montréal, Tre Valli Varesine, and Il Lombardia.
The Briton began a new adventure with UAE Team Emirates in 2023, beginning at the UAE Tour with third on GC, thanks to a stage victory atop Jebel Hafeet. Across a series of stage race preparing him for the Tour de France, he had a podium at Tirreno-Adriatico, GC win at Tour de Romandie and second overall at Critérium du Dauphiné.
Outsprinting his twin brother at the line in Bilbao on the opening day of the Tour, he earned the yellow jersey, keeping it for four days, and finished third on GC. He followed that with third overall at Vuelta a Burgos and a victory at Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal.
In 2024, Yates won the Tour of Oman and the Tour de Suisse and then finished sixth overall at the Tour de France while working in support, alongside João Almeida, of their UAE Team Emirates teammate and overall winner Tadej Pogačar. He also won a stage of the Vuelta a España, finishing 12th overall.
His 2025 got off to a winning start again, winning the Tour of Oman GC for the second time in a row, in preparation for racing both the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France.
