Latest News from the Race
Simon Spilak (Katusha-Alpecin) rounded up the overall victory with a solid performance in the final time trial. Damiano Caruso (BMC Racing) made time on his rival but it wasn't enough to bridge the gap. However, it ensured that Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL-Jumbo) had to settle for third place behind him.
Rohan Dennis ended his Tour de Suisse with a flourish, leading home a BMC Racing 1-2-3. Dennis finished in a time 29 seconds quicker than his teammate Stefan Kung, with Caruso rounding out the podium spot.

While many of the Grand Tour contenders opt for the Criterium du Dauphine, the Tour de Suisse provides an alternative approach to the Tour de France. There may be a smaller concentration of big names but the victory is no less hard fought for.
Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) beat Ion Izagirre (Movistar) by 12 seconds to take the title last year. It's not yet clear if he will be back to defend his title and in what shape he'll be if he does return. The Colombian has not raced since Il Lombardia at the end of 2016 after breaking his tibia in a training crash over the winter. He had been penciled in for a return to racing at the Tour of California but his comeback was pushed back, and the team hopes he will be racing again in June. Izagirre is due to ride at the Tour de Suisse this June for his new team Bahrain-Merida.
Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) is set to compete, hot off a ride at the Giro d'Italia and the first ever Hammer Series competition, while Team Sky will have his compatriot Wout Poels at the helm. On the sprint side of things Magnus Cort Neilsen (Orica-Scott) and Bryan Coquard (Direct Energie) will be duking it out for the honours.
