Peter van Petegem has been named as the new race director of the Omloop Het Volk, the first of the Spring Classics. Race organizer Wim Van Herreweghe announced the appointment Saturday.
Van Petegem, 37, retired this year after 16 years as a pro. He won the Omloop three times, in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
