Biography:
Slovenian Urška Žigart began her pro cycling career in 2015 and spent five seasons at the Continental level with the BTC City Ljubljana squad. Her biggest year was 2019 when she finished seventh overall at the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas and earned a pair of bronze medals in her national championships, a second career podium in the individual time trial and a first time in the road race.
Moving to the Women’s WorldTour in 2020, she was 10th overall at Tour Cycliste Féminin International de l'Ardèche, won the Slovenian time trial championship and added another bronze medal at road nationals.
In 2021 as a 24-year-old, she joined the Australian top-tier Team BikeExchange and continued to show her diversity across one-day events and stage races. Her maiden European professional victory with a stunning solo win on stage 4 of the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana-Vuelta Comunitat. In 2022, after winning her second national title in the time trial, the Slovenian showcased her climbing abilities at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, attacking on stage 7 and battling to eighth place atop Le Markstein, and then followed that with top 20 at La Super Planche des Belles Filles.
Žigart scored double podiums at the 2023 and 2024 Slovenian road nationals - earning gold in the time trial and a silver in the road race in 2023 and then sweeping the golds in both events in 2024. Even with both national titles, her national federation did not select Žigart for the Paris Olympic Games, and this non-selection played a part in Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar, Žigart's fiancé, declining to participate for Slovenia on the men's road team at the Olympics. She concluded the 2024 season with fourth place at the 1.Pro Giro dell'Emilia Internazionale Donne Elite, following a seventh consecutive appearance at the Road World Championships for Slovenia, where she finished 17th in the time trial. She signed with AG Insurance-Soudal Team, after four years with the Australian team.
