Biography:
Marta Cavalli, born in Cremona on March 18, 1998, turned professional with Valcar in 2017 and she quickly made an impression by claiming the Italian national title the following year.
In 2019, Cavalli underscored her potential in the Classics with second place at Brabante Pijl, while she also showcased her dexterity by winning a gold medal in the team pursuit at the European Games in Minsk.
After placing fifth at Gent-Wevelgem in the pandemic-interrupted 2020 campaign, Cavalli moved across the Alps to race for FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope in 2021, and she was again a consistent performer in the Classics, taking 6th at the Tour of Flanders, 8th at Strade Bianche and 9th at the inaugural Paris-Roubaix Femmes.
Cavalli would proceed to enjoy a breakout year in 2022 as the team rebranded to FDJ Suez Futuroscope, illuminating the Spring with victories at Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne, though she had to settle for 6th place at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. 5th place at Paris-Roubaix, meanwhile, was a further indication of her wide-ranging talent.
In June, Cavalli scored a fine victory in the inaugural women’s edition of the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge. She went on to place second overall to the untouchable Annemiek van Vleuten at the Giro Donne, though a crash forced her to abandon the Tour de France Femmes on stage 2.
